Your eBay Purchase

We have shipped your key(s) via USPS First Class mail and you should be receiving the envelope shortly. Generally, there is no other tracking information available for this shipment. If you haven't received your envelope within a week of the shipment notification email, please contact us! Extreme East and West coast locations should expect delivery to be a full week. Will this replacement work?
Our key replacement kits will not repair a key where the circuitry has been compromised. Typically, you'll purchase this package when a key is missing or has been knocked out of place. Does the damaged key position still work when you press down on it? Open a word processor program and press down on the damaged key position. If the test fails, the whole keyboard should be replaced. Purchasing a single key kit will not fix this problem. However, if the test succeeds, our key parts can repair the damage.

Before you attach your key

Clean up the missing keyboard key space and check for imperfections.
If you have a keyboard type with metal retainer clips, be sure the metal "hooks" are very straight. In the picture to the right, the red arrows indicate an example where the "hooks" are not straight.

Attach any metal bars if your key kit included them.
If you're replacing a key that has a metal bar, remove the bar from the key we sent and attach it to the keyboard first. The key will snap down on top of the bar. The picture to the right demonstrates one version of a key with a metal bar. Sometimes keys will have more than one metal bar or a metal bar with hooks on the end. The key had all of the pieces installed when it was sent to you so you could examine the parts working together correctly.

Attach a cup before key installation.
Never replace a cup with the one we sent if your keyboard's cup is still in place and working. Remember, if it's not broke, don't fix it! If attaching a "cup", DO NOT use super glue. The original adhesive appears to be silicone.
In the picture on the right, the leftmost two cups adhere directly to the board. The right cup is stuck to a "floating" layer above the board.
Our recommendation: You may also wish to put the cup in place but not actually glue it. In most models, it will become trapped under the key and work correctly anyway.
OR
Put a drop of white school glue on a piece of paper and smear it, then run the bottom of the cup on the flat smear (so glue only gets on the bottom of the cup). Put the cup on the board is appropriate place and let sit overnight before installing the hinge.

Attaching a key to your keyboard

Attaching keys requires patience.

The installation guide will focus on the normal size keys (the letter keys) for the version you purchased. Smaller or larger keys may have slightly different hinge sets and the guide does not show these variations. Actual installation should be very similar in these cases.
The picture to the right demonstrates that keys could also have a different orientation from the guide. Key hinge installation may be rotated 90 or 180 degrees from the pictures in the guide. The procedure is exactly the same if you orient the guide the same direction as the key!
There are usually different types of HINGES/KEYS for the same laptop model number because there are multiple suppliers/manufacturers. If you've tried to attach the HINGE but feel it's not the correct type, please contact us and we'll either send you another type or refund your money.
If you break a hinge or a portion of the key during installation, please just let us know! We are glad to work with you.
